Brutal [27 Jun 2006|08:30pm]
The Acacia Strain- The Dead Walk

As the intro builds into the first track, "Burn Face" the listener can tell they are in for a wild ride. With their second full length, the members of The Acacia Strain Vincent Bennett(vocals), Danile Daponde (guitar), Seth Coleman (Bass), Daniel Laskiewic (Guitar), and Kevin Boutot (Drums) have upped the anty on their characteristic sound. Lines such as "You'll get what you deserve" and "We are at war" found in the first track alone we can tell that this is going to a cruel, bone-crushing, heart stopping ride. Track 2 stands as a social commentary on the two faced nature of the entertainment industry with lines such as, "Enjoy your fifteen minuts of fame because this will be fifteen minutes you're going to wanna forget". As the record progresses the enemies of the Acacia Strain are killed in increasingly violent ways...this is not for the faint of heart. Breakdown after breakdown endue, but my vote for breakdown of the record comes in the middle of track 6 "Whoa! Shut Down". Brutal Breakdowns, upbeat 2 step, and haunting guitar tones/vocals keep this record in the back of your mind long after the sounds leave your ears. Guest vocals include Mike Dc of Damnation AD II, Lou Tanius of Paths of Torment, Phil Labonte of All That Remains, Mitch Lucker of Suicide Silence, Keith Holuk of Ligeia, and Nate Johnson of Premonitions of War.

The only faults i found in this record is it's intensity. The Acacia Strain is known for producing brutal records and this one does not fail. The breakdowns are the heaviest and the lyrical content is very mature, allowing this record to be accessible to few.

I am a huge fan of The Acacia Strain and having seen them live i can attest to them being able to produce live the brutality that they put on tape. If you are a fan of brutal breakdowns, moshing till you pass out, and in-your-face lyrics i seriously suggest you check out the "Dead Walk"

My Rating- 4.5 out of 5

Reviews- June 27 2006 [27 Jun 2006|12:27pm]
With the release of "Dusk and Summer" Chris Carabba as Dashboard Confessional has released another stunning album which will further polarize acoustic/dashboard fans from electric/dashboard fans. Along with the rest of his band Scott Schoenbeck (Bass), John Lefler( Guitar/keys), and Mike Marsh (Drums, Percussion) Chris has managed to write 10 more insightful, heartfelt, and easily relatable tracks. The albums first track "Don't Wait" also pulls double duty as the albums single. With soaring violins and perfect harmonies, this track sets the tone for the rest of the album. "Reason to believe" the albums second track is an upbeat, straightforward rock song with grooving guitars and with anatomical lyrics such as, "My capillaries scream there's nothing left to feed on". "The Secrets in the telling" the albums third track brings to mind the earlier dashboard album "swiss army romance" with lines like, "I won't sleep if you don't sleep because tonight may be the last chance we are given. Track number 4 contains the core of every dashboard song and the theme to any music written by Chris Carabba, "You have stolen my heart". If someone asked me to sum up any dashboard record in one line that would be it. This track also feature the vocals of Chris's newest addition to his band, Susan Sherouse(violin, vocals). By far the stand out track on this record is "So long, so long", an incredibly heart wrenching ballad with beautiful piano melodies, whispered vocals, and a perfectly fitting guest vocal spot by Counting Crows vocalist Adam Duritz. This song fills your heart with warm melodies of summer romance and the heartache that comes with leaving those you love.

Once again Chris Carabba's picture is featured on both the front and back covers of the record but it is actually the core group of musicians he has surrounded himself that makes this record stand out. Having met Mike Marsh(drums) i came to appreciate the music they create in the background while Chris lets his heart bleed. These incredibile musicians maintain a mellow air while providing melody, solidarity, and stability to the music of dashboard confessional.

The only negaitives i found throughout this record are the same old complaints. Many times the lyrics of this band come off syrupy and soaked in tears. Secondly, an obvious lack of acoustic songs shows Chris' desire to move away from his solo days. As an old school fan i would have appreciated at least one or two more acoustic songs to stem my longing for some acoustic singalongs.

my score - 4 out of 5

XXX? [05 Jun 2006|11:07am]
[ mood | awake ]

Last night i had a dream that me and my mom went to see fall out boy and my chemical romance in a nonexistant venue in birmingham. When we got there we went and sat down in some chairsd because no one was there. I was wearing my gym shorts and a throwdown hoodie. Pete wentz (bassist for FOB) came in and sat down in front of me. Of course i knew who he was but i didnt say anything to him. He turned around and said "hey man, I'm pete" and i replied, "he man my name is brad". He then complimented me on my hoodie by saying "Sweet! you like throwdown? I love throwdown they are one of my top 5 favorite bands. To which i replied, "There is no way you like throwdown, you're too much of a pussy!!" heh. So in the end throwdown came out and played instead of fall out boy, there was no one else there beside me and my mom, i moshed the night away, and totally burned Pete Wentz

Fight back! This is your time to attack! [29 May 2006|01:53pm]
Anyone out there who likes metal/death metal/breakdowns should listen to my bros in with blood comes cleansing. Their debut will be in hastings, best buy, fye and other record stores around the nation starting August 22nd. Look on their myspace page for new songs in late june, and while you are there leave a picture cooment on their default pic. (i took it) Check out their shows listing and see if they are coming to a town near you, its worth it to see them in all their live glory. They will also be playing a sidestage as this years Cornerstone Il so if u plan on being there check them out.

-If you claim to like metal then you have no reason not to partake in the wbcc. Listen to "fearless before opposition" for sweet gang vocals. The stuff on their myspace is off the old ep so keep an eye out for their label debut "Golgotha".
